20th December - morning
A small ensemble of 9 people assembled at the front of the Church to play carols prior to the morning carol service at Chandler's Ford Methodist church on Sunday 20th December 2020. On a bright but chilly morning the group, socially distanced of course, played carols from the Salvation Army's 'New Christmas Praise'. Some of the carols played were 'Jesus, Good above all Others', 'Unto us a Boy is Born' and 'Who is He'.
20th December - evening
14 members of the band assembled in the Church hall in Chandler's Ford on Sunday 20th December 2020 for the Hart Plain Church, Waterlooville carol service. How could this be possible? Well with the power of modern technology. The whole carol service took place over Zoom, with the band in Chandler's Ford and all the Church members from Hart Plain each in their individual homes.
The traditional service started with 'Once in Royal David's City' and 'Rejoice, the Saviour is Here'. These were followed by 'Hark, the Herald', 'Oh LittleTown of Bethlehem', 'Away in a Manger', 'While Shepherds Watched their Flocks', 'We Three Kings'. The service was concluded with 'O Come all ye Faithful', then the band finished with '12 Days of Christmas' and 'We Wish you a Merry Christmas'.
25th December
Christmas day wouldn't be Christmas day unless the band played carols outside Church to welcome the congregation as they arrived for the service. Well even a covid pandemic didn't stop this tradition, although it was pretty cold, on this Christmas morn.
A few traditional carols form the Salvation Army's 'New Christmas Praise' book were performed first, then onto some more challenging arrangements of 'Mid-Winter' and 'A Starry Night' also published by the Salvation Army, finishing with 'Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas'. That brought to a close our Christmas engagements for 2020, let's hope we can get back to normality in 2021.
