Farewell Service

The band were honoured to take part in the Circuit farewell service to Rev. Peter Cornick on Sunday 15th July, which was held at Chandler’s Ford Methodist Church. The service was led by Rev. Gareth Hill and the preacher was the Rev. Tom Stuckey and was a chance for the wider Church family from around the whole circuit to come together and worship as well as to enjoy tea and cakes prior to the service. A busy service started with ‘Lord for the Years’ by M Baughen arr. D Carter followed by ‘Majesty’, for which we used the arrangement by Salvation Army, from their Scripture Based Songs book. This was followed by a new hymn ‘Captain of Israel’s Host, and Guide’ before the slightly tricky tune ‘Sing of the Lord’s Goodness’ by E Sands arr. Simon Farrenden, tricky because of the key signature and beat. After a break for the sermon but before communion the band struck up again with ‘St Leonards – May the Mind of Christ’ arr. Simon Farrenden. After the communion break we finished the service with ‘Thine be the Glory’, and after some generous words from Peter Cornick himself and a round of applause from the congregation we played ‘Great is the Darkness (come Lord Jesus)’ by Salvation Army as people departed.
