On a very sunny bank holiday Monday a large contingent of the band went to play at Fryern Funtasia. Sunhats and suncream were very important - especially as the band was too big to all fit under the gazebo!
16 members of the band attended Chandler's Ford Methodist Church on Sunday 13th May to provide the musical accompaniment for the morning service led by Rev. Peter Cornick. To start with we played 1 verse of 'O Breath of Life' arr. Simon Farrenden for the introit. Then followed two pieces from the Salvation Army's publication Scripture Based Songs 'Great is the Darkness' and 'Beauty for Brokeness'. Next was 'God of Grace' arr. Simon Farrenden. The next hymn proved to be the hardest due to the key it was written in, it was 'Here is Love' from the Salvation Army book Magnify. Many will know the tune as Calon Lan. The final hymn was back in a more friendly key and the sound improved, 'My Jesus, My Saviour' by D Zscheck, arr. Simon Farrenden. Overall the sound was okay, however the balance wasn't quite right as we only had 1 bass player and 1 solo cornet which didn't help in the tune in the difficult key.
