On Sunday 5th November the band provided the music for the annual BB / GB rededication service held at Chandler’s Ford Methodist Church. The service was led by the Rev. Peter Cornick, our company Chaplin, and took the form of a church with choices style service.
We started the service with the introit ‘Day by Day Dear Lord’ arr. Simon Farrenden. The first hymn was ‘Light of the World’ (Here I am to worship) from the Salvation Army’s scripture based songs compilation. During this hymn the company colour was paraded along with the GB’s colour. This was followed by ‘Be Bold, Be Strong’ again from the SA’s scripture based songs.
Rev. Peter Cornick engineered the whole service around the BB/GB and many of the boys and girls then helped to tell the story of Jonah and the Whale. The next hymn was ‘I Will Offer up My Life’ the music for which was played from the Salvation Army’s Magnify book.
The congregation was then invited to split up and attend one or two of the many BB/GB taster sessions. The idea was for the BB/GB to run 5 or 6 sessions to show what sort of activities / projects we get up to during our regular meetings, hopefully all found It interesting and insightful.
Once the congregation was reunited in the church the band struck up again to play ‘Seek Ye First the Kingdom of God’ arr. T Davies.
Then followed the actual rededication act where boys, girls, staff and the whole church congregation were asked to make promises to their commitment to the companies’. The service concluded with ‘Will Your Anchor Hold’ from the Salvation Army’s hymn tune book. As the congregation departed for refreshments the band played ‘Be Still for the Presence of the Lord’ from the SA’s Magnify book.
Thanks to all the boys and girls for attending, and to the many families which supported the service by staying.
