Fryern Funtasia

The band was proud to represent the Boys' Brigade at the Fryern Funtasia, a community event held on Fryern recreation ground and organised by Chandler’s Ford Parish Council to showcase groups and activities which take place in the Chandler’s Ford area. We soldiered through three half hour performances even though many members of the public had left to find shelter from the rain by the time of our third stint. Fortunately the majority of the band stayed dry under the gazebo with just a few of us around the edges getting wet.

During the three performances we play a variety of our favourite tunes: ‘The Anchor Song’ by G.S.S. ‘Beauty and the Beast’ by Alan Menken. ‘Bless them All’ by Jimmy Hughes and Frank Lake. ‘Mancini Magic’ arr. Alan Fernie. ‘My Guy’ by William Smokey Robinson featuring a solo by Diane Farrenden on Euphonium., and finally ‘ Vera Lynn Forever’ arr. Willy Hautvast.

National Boys' and Girls Brigade Music Festival - Midlands

We took a small 10 piece up to Leicester to take part in the BB / GB Midlands Music Festival. The ensemble performed 3 pieces starting with ‘Praise My Soul’ from the Salvation Army’s Scripture Based Songs publication, followed by ‘We All Stand Together’ by McCartney and ‘Oh, Listen to the Band’ by Lionel Monckton. We received some great comments from the adjudicator with a special mentions for all sections across the programme.

Junior Section Centenary

We welcomed the chance to join the start of the Junior 100th centenary anniversary celebrations in Hampshire at the New Life Christian Church in Emsworth . The event was organised by BB in Hampshire to celebrate the anniversary of the Junior Section which originally formed as Life Boys and later changed its name to the Junior section.

The band played for approximately 45 mins just outside the main entrance as junior section boys, staff and parents arrived for the day’s activities. Luckily the rain held off for this outside performance.
