St Cross Fete

The band were invited back to St Cross fete, which has now become an annual event on Saturday 24thJune 2017. 29 members of the band turned out and gave a well balanced programme.

The band had three performance slots each for approximately 25 minutes, and took performance times in turn with the Winchester Morris Dancing Men and the Punch and Judy show. St Cross fete is a lovely well attended local fete on the outskirts of Winchester, and when the weather is good it always makes a good afternoon. Well the weather this year was generally overcast, a little breezy which did cause a few problems with some of the music, and just as we came towards the end of our final session we had a brief downpour and sent the band scurrying for cover.

Our programme generally consisted of music we have been performing throughout the year and thus know fairly well, such as ‘When Your Smiling’, ‘Anna Magdalena’s Song’, ‘Beauty and the Beast’, ‘Hootenanny’, ‘Nar Solen Fejer gaden’. We mixed the tempos and styles up being playing a few marches such as ‘The Anchor Song’ and ‘The New Recruit’, then we came to a finale with ‘Rock Around the Clock’, ‘The Old Gumbie Cat’ and finally ‘Skimbleshanks: The Railway Cat’.

We had a good audience listening on for most of the afternoon, and we hope they enjoyed our performances.
