The band travelled out to Cowplain to play for the 50th anniversary celebrations of the Hart Plain Church. The Church had organised a Songs of Praise style evening service, refreshments and then we provided a short 30 minute concert to entertain the congregation and round off the evening of celebration.
All the hymns were chosen by members of the church, and each person introduced their chosen hymn and explained the reasons behind their choice. We got to play: ‘Will Your Anchor Hold’, ‘And Can it be’, ‘When I survey the Wondrous Cross’, ‘Great is thy Faithfulness’, ‘O Love that Wilt not let me go’, ‘Love Devine’, ‘Now thank we all our God’, ‘I’ll go in the Strength of the Lord’, ‘God be with you till we meet again’ and ‘The day thou Gavest Lord has ended’. This selection of classic hymns allowed the band to really support a special evening.
For the concert segment we treated the audience to a variety of pieces from some of the worlds most prolific composers and arrangers for brass band including: ‘Mancini Magic’ arr. Alan Ferrie, ‘My Guy’ by William ‘Smokey’ Robinson, ‘Barnard Castle’ by Goff Richards, ‘Pendine’ by R Martyn, ‘Annie’s Song’ by John Denver and finally we finished with ‘Rule Britannia’ arr. Stuart Johnson.
We would like to thank the four guest players who helped us through this event, without whom it would have been very difficult to provide the music for the service let alone the concert.
