March has been a busy month for the band featuring two hugely successful music festivals and providing the music for worship at Chandlers Ford Methodist Church.

Chichester Music Festival

A small group travelled to Chichester on Saturday 4th March to take part in the Chichester Music Festival and came away with the second prize. The band performed three pieces, ‘Prelude to Lavenham’ by Geoffrey Nobes which we have been playing regularly over the last year. The other two pieces were new to the band and had only been recently dug out of the band’s library. ‘March – Happy All Day’ by Christopher Ward comes from the Salvation Army’s Brass Band Journal, and ‘Oh, Listen to the Band’ by Lionel Monckton. The performance went well given the new music, and the adjudicators comments can be seen by clicking on the title.

Worship at Chandlers Ford Methodist Church

The band was proud to be back on duty playing for a Sunday morning service led by Rev. Peter Cornick, especially considering it included the christening of a previous band member's child.

We played a range of traditional hymns and some more modern worship songs, these included: ‘A New Commandment I Give Unto You’ and ‘This Little Light of Mine’ both arr. by Simon Farrenden, ‘Be Still for the Presence of the Lord’ for which the band played the Salvation Army’s version from their Magnify publication. The Magnify publication was also used for ‘I Will Offer up my Life’. The more traditional hymns were accompanied by music from the Salvation Army Hymn Tune book, these included ‘Vox Dilecti’, ‘Jesus is Looking for Thee’ and ‘Tell me the Story of Jesus’.

The final song was sung to the tune of ‘Londonderry Air’ arr. by Geo Hawkin.
