Crosfield Hall – A band of over 30 turned out for the carol service at Crosfield Hall on Saturday 17thDecember. We opened the evening by playing ‘March – The Festive Season’ by Paul Curnow, this was followed by ‘Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas’ from the Salvation Army’s Sounds of Christmas book. The service proceeded along with carols interspersed with bible readings and sketches which were performed by members of the band. As well as carols we performed ‘The Parade of the Tin Soldiers’ by Leon Jessel, ‘Christmas Lullaby’ by John Rutter and ‘Stop the Calvary’ by Jona Lewie. There was much demand for ‘The 12 Days of Christmas’ so we obliged by playing Keith Lever’s arrangement. We concluded the service by performing ‘Jingle Bells’ arr. Derek Ashmore.
Horton Heath – A band of 13 members visited Horton Heath community centre to play for the Baptist Church’s annual carol service. The band, which was under the leadership of Miss Abi Andrews for the event, played ‘O Come O Come Emmanuel’, ‘Hark the Herald Angels Sing’, ‘The First Nowell’, ‘Calypso Carol’, ‘We Three Kings of Orient Are’ and ‘The Holly and The Ivy’ all the from the Salvation Army’s New Christmas Praise book. After the service we played a few more carols and finished with ‘Jingle Bells’, ‘Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer’ and finally with ‘We Wish you a Merry Christmas’. This event marked the last engagement for Diana Boyles, one of our Baritone players. We wish her and Roger our best wishes as they move up North.
Rose Window- 7 members of the band visited the Rose Window Lodge on Monday 19th December to play carols for our hosts as they finished their Christmas meal. All the favourite carols were played, ‘O Come All Ye Faithful’, ‘Hark the Herald Angels Sing’, ‘Ding Dong Merrily on High’, ‘Jingle Bells’, ‘Good King Wenceslas’, Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer’ and ‘Away in a Manger’. We finished off the performance with the Lodge’s favourite ‘The 12 Days of Christmas’ arr. Keith Lever.
