Its been a busy weekend for the band, as well as our regular weekly rehearsal we performed at Avenue St Andrews church, played for the morning service at Chandler’s Ford, and finished the weekend off with a Sunday band rehearsal.
The band was invited to play for a concert on Saturday 23rd April to raise funds for Avenue St Andrews church organ refurbishment fund. The band was first to perform followed by a choir and Ukulele group.
We opened the concert with Stuart Johnson’s ‘Northern Festival March’, the mood and tempo was then changed as we play ‘Share My Yoke’ by Joy Webb. The band of 26 members followed this by playing ‘Mancini Magic’ arr. By Alan Fernie, ‘Prelude to Lavenham’ by Geoffrey Nobes, ‘Anna Magdalena’s Song’ arr. By Steve Cortland. The band finished its set by playing ‘Rock Around the Clock’ by Freedman and Knight. The last piece went down very well with many of the audience getting to their feet to dance in the aisles.
On Sunday 24th April, 21 members of the band played for the Sunday morning service at Chandler’s Ford Methodist church. The service was led by Rev. Peter Hutchison from Valley Park. We played 3 tunes from the Salvation Army Hymn tune book, ‘Diadem’, ‘Sussex’ and ‘Sagina’. The other 2 hymns ‘Alleluia’ and ‘The Servant Song’ were arranged by Simon. As well as playing for the hymns we also provided music before and after the service which was appreciated by many of the congregation.
We finished a busy weekend of playing with a Sunday band rehearsal in the early evening.
