Review on the performance given by the Chandlers Ford Boys Brigade band at the Horton Heath Golf Club on Sunday 12th Dec 2021.
The performance commenced at 13:30 and lasted for about 1hr.
A revolutionary new band layout was employed sitting the basses towards the back with horns and cornets to the left of the conductor while euphoniums, trombone and percussion were sited to the right. The man playing the stick turned his back to the audience but this made no difference as the stick is generally silent.
A rousing performance commencing with Rudolph the red nosed reindeer had the audience tapping away to the rhythm.
The audience expressed praise throughout – no doubt syncopated across tables as the level of consciousness reached fever pitch during the opening number.
Those serving the tables appeared ‘light of step’ while delivering desserts walking in rhythm to the sound.
The mood was set – the audience was ready – it was time to ooze out a carol or two.
In the bleak midwinter filtered across the tables delivered smoothly by the band.
Whoever had the tune clearly knew the words! The baseline slithered under the tables reaching the feet of those immune to Rudolf.
The next number saw the percussion section come in to its own. Melodic rattling of maracas synchronised the various sections of the band – including the man with the stick - and could be heard distinctly throughout the hall.
Carol after carol filled the air rendering the audience in rapturous applause after each number.
The final rousing delivery of Rudolf, a self-imposed encore, left the audience gagging for more.
This is a performance that will be remembered!
